SOURCE – Carson Wentz is not interested in being a backup quarterback and would want to move on from the Eagles if the current situation — with Jalen Hurts starting under center — continues in Philadelphia, sources connected to the team told ESPN.
Although the Eagles’ quarterback situation remains fluid with three games left this season, Wentz is not pleased with the way events have unfolded in the organization, according to sources.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson has not said whether the quarterback switch is permanent — only going so far as to announce Hurts as the starter for Sunday — but player and team sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen last weekend that Hurts will remain the starter this season.
Philadelphia’s decision to bench Wentz for Hurts has garnered the attention of other teams around the NFL, with some expected to inquire about Wentz’s availability in a trade, according to sources.
I thought Carson Wentz’s agent would wait until the offseason to leak reports to Adam Schefter, but I feel like we’ll wake up to a Schefter notification every Sunday until the season is over about the QB situation.
In my mind this report does more damage to Carson than it does to the Eagles. I know at the end of the day you need to protect your legacy and your pockets, but Jalen Hurts didn’t win the starting job, he was handed it because you sucked. Go win it the fuck back. Carson’s mental capacity is shot. Two major injuries, he watched his back up win the Super Bowl and become a cult figure in the city, fluctuated weight, and the organization plus on-field play hasn’t helped the situation. But if you can’t see that this offense hummed last week with Carson on the bench you’re fucking blind. We had 12 weeks to watch Carson check down, overthrow receivers, and stall drives. You needed a spark and you got one. So if the summer comes around and you lose out on the QB battle again and want out, rework your deal. We’ve got $60 million in dead cap money to worry about. You’re more valuable to us as a backup than a sunk cost on a balance sheet. Have your agent do your bidding for you and get us a 1st rounder back. You signed the contract, the Eagles signed the contract. Everyone took a risk. You don’t like the situation change it. Eagles fans aren’t happy the way events unfolded this season either. Tough shit. If I was getting paid big money and were leading a project at work that failed, no matter the team around me, I’d be replaced too. Take the off-season to get the mentals in check, the first offseason you won’t be going into injured, and come back and light NovaCare on fire. There’s no city that loves a comeback story more than Philadelphia.
P.S. I know Adam Schefter is connected, but do you ever imagine “sources” are the equipment manager picking up jockstraps that overheard a conversation sometimes?
