The UFC is back at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas tonight for another fight night card. The card will feature a main event between 2 heavyweights looking to catapult themselves into the title conversation. Curtis Blaydes will take on Alexander Volkov. The co-main event will have Josh Emmett facing Shane Burgos in a featherweight battle. Let’s breakdown the fights, and I’ll offer up my predictions for tonight’s event.
Main Card (ESPN 8PM)
“Razor” Curtis Blaydes vs. “Drago” Alexander Volkov
Odds: Volkov (+320) Blaydes (-450)
The main event of the evening (in my best buffer impression) highlights two heavyweights ready to launch themselves to the front of the line for next shot at the title. Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov are ready to put everything on the line tonight. We’re all expecting a stand up war, right? I mean, Both men have knocked out their opponent over 60% of the time. Volkov might have the mindset of boxing to victory, but don’t forget that Blaydes is a former wrestler averaging 6.63 take downs per 15 minutes.
Both fighters are on winning streaks. The Razor is riding a 3 fight win streak after suffering a loss against his nemesis, Francis Ngannou (Ngannou is responsible for both of Blaydes losses in the UFC). Drago has won 7 of his last 8 fights in the octagon. His lone loss came at the hands of Derrick Lewis. Volkov was controlling that fight in the 3rd round before Lewis landed the knockout blow. This should be an interesting battle tonight. Can Curtis establish the takedown and control Volkov on the ground, or will Volkov deliver the knockout blow?

Prediction: Blaydes via Strikes , 2nd Round
Josh Emmett vs. “Hurricane” Shane Burgos
Odds: Emmett (+130) Burgos (-165)
This is a battle of top 10 featherweights in the division. The winner tonight could climb the ladder into the top 5 of the featherweights. Josh Emmett is riding a 2 fight win streak and winner in 4 of his last 5 fights. Emmett does his talking with his hands with 6 KO in 15 victories. Arguably, he might have the hardest mitts in the division. He can end the fight in the blink of an eye.
However, Shane Burgos may have something to say about it. The Hurricane has swirled onto the scene with a vengeance winning 3 fights in a row, and has a 6-1 record in the UFC. In Burgo’s 13 wins, 10 have come by way of stoppage (5 KO, 5 submission). Burgos possesses some great statistics in the octagon. He displays a tremendous 90% take down defense. Also, Burgos has an amazing 7.09 significant strikes per minutes. This ranks him as the best in featherweight history. Conor who?
This fight will be a must see tonight! There will be firepower, electricity, and excitement! A true nominee for Fight of the Night. The winner will be launched into a marquee fight and potential title opportunity in the future. Can’t miss this one!
Prediction: Emmett via KO, 1st Round
Women’s Bantamweight Bout
“Rocky” Raquel Pennington vs. “Belizean” Marion Reneau
Odds: Reneau (+155) Pennington (-195)
The former TUF (The Ultimate Fighter) contestant steps foot back in the octagon tonight after a loss in January to Holly Holm. Rocky is trying to return to her winning ways after suffering losses in 3 of her last 4 fights (Holm, de Randamie, Nunes).
The Belizean steps in the octagon as the elder at 42 years of age. The black belt in BJJ hasn’t fought in over a year when she lost to Yana Kunitskaya. She’s currently on a 2 fight skid dropping back to back unanimous decisions to her opponents.
Something has to give for one of these fighters ranked in the top 10 of the bantamweight division. Pennington could enter the title conversation again with a win. Reneau is looking for a run at relevancy as her career winds down. There’s a lot on the line as these two ladies face off tonight.

Prediction: Pennington via unanimous decision
“Remember the Name” Belal Muhammed vs. “Cyborg” Lyman Good
Odds: Good (+105) Muhammed (-130)
This fight is a long time coming for both fighters. Originally, they were supposed to fight back in 2016. However, Lyman Good failed a drug test and was forced to withdraw. Fast forward to 2020, and they were scheduled to face off at UFC 249. Again, Good was forced to withdraw from the fight. Here we are, June 20th, with no issues, and these guys are ready to throw down in the cage.
Muhammed is entering the cage tonight on a 2 fight win streak. Belal hopes to shake off the cage rust quickly as it’s his first fight in nearly a year. Across the cage will be Lyman Good staring him down. Lyman is carrying the momentum of a victory in the cage the last time out. The former inaugural Bellator Welterweight champ is hoping to start a win streak tonight at the UFC Apex. He’ll be carrying heavy hands along with a heavy heart into the octagon tonight. Lyman recently lost his father, but is carrying on business as usual and fighting for his Dad.
“Let’s go out there and let’s do this for him.”

Prediction: Muhammed via split decision
160lb Catchweight Bout
“A-10” Jim Miller vs. “The Predator” Roosevelt Roberts
Odds: Miller (+200) Roberts (-260)
The elder statesman of the UFC returns for action tonight in Las Vegas. Jim Miller will enter the octagon for his 34th appearance, tying him with Donald Cerrone for most fights in UFC history. Meanwhile, Roosevelt Roberts is making a quick turnaround for this fight after defeating Brok Weaver on May 30th. Roberts looked at this fight as a huge opportunity to make a name for himself at the expense of a UFC veteran.
This fight will be a technical battle. Both fighters may look to bring the fight to the mat and work a submission for victory. A-10 hopes to get back in the win column, and Roosevelt Roberts will hope to make an impression to the brass of UFC in the biggest fight of his career.
